Live Art Development Agency
This DIT project is a two-day experimental laboratory for six artists working across movement, sound, somatics and spiritual experimentation. Together, the group will investigate whether the body can serve as a site to engage with archival absences, specifically the erased histories of South Asian maritime labourers (lascars). The lab uses rhythmic repetition, collective listening, and performance as modes of inquiry, drawing from spiritual epistemologies such as trance-based Kathak and whirling dervish traditions.
Participation in a two-day collaborative research lab, access to specialized somatic and archival methodologies, networking opportunities, and a support budget for access needs.
Seeking artists/practitioners working across live art, theatre, dance, music, ritual, or embodied practices. No prior experience in professional movement or sound required. Applicants must be open to collaborative, process-led, and experimental ways of working. Prioritizes South Asian artists and those with a meaningful connection to East London.
Complete the online application form. Alternative formats including video and audio applications (maximum 5 minutes) are accepted and should be sent to willy@thisisliveart.co.uk.
