About the Open Call

Birth the Musical is a collaborative three-day workshop that explores the weird and world-bending metamorphosis into parenthood. Participants will engage in conversation, writing, improvisation, and vocal experiments to process the physical sensations and phenomenon of pregnancy. These activities will culminate in the creation of performance scores and a 'scratch musical'. The project reclaimed birth as a creative, queer, and transformative experience, aiming to unpick cultural scripts and social conditioning around pregnancy.

What is Offered

A three-day creative workshop, introduction to experimental vocal practices and embodied techniques for collective composition, and access to a shared £500 budget reserved to contribute toward participating artists' childcare support.

Requirements

Artists or practitioners who are currently pregnant or have recently been pregnant (typically within 1 year postpartum, though those up to 3 years postpartum are encouraged to apply).
