About the Open Call

Discover Wauwatosa presents ART 64, a bracket-style painting competition taking place June 5-6, 2026. Sixty-four artists are selected to compete in a live tournament format across three rounds. Round durations increase from 60 to 90 minutes. The public votes both in-person and virtually to determine who advances. The tournament concludes with a single winner receiving a $20,000 grand prize. All participants are guaranteed a minimum payment. Artwork created during the event is also offered for sale to the public.

What is Offered

All 64 participants receive a minimum of $100. Round 2 participants receive $250; Round 3 participants receive $750; the grand winner receives $20,000. Canvas, easel, table, and drop cloth are provided. Artists retain 70% of proceeds from any artwork sold during the event.

Requirements

Artists must be 18 years or older. Participants must be available for the duration of the event on June 5-6, 2026 (plus a rain date of June 7). Artists are responsible for their own travel, accommodations, and painting supplies (excluding canvas and easel). Portfolio submissions must include specific time-to-complete details for 3-5 works.

How to Apply

Applicants must complete the online Jotform application, which includes demographic information, a description of their artistic style, and a portfolio submission. The portfolio must be a single one-page file (PDF, JPG, or PNG) containing 3-5 paintings created within the past three years, including the title and time taken to complete each piece. A $20 application fee is required.
