About the Open Call

Critical Mass / / PHOTO is a tailored intensive course designed for early-mid career artists at a pivotal stage in their practice. The program focuses on refining conceptual and visual language, developing long-term projects, and strengthening the ability to articulate work within contemporary art and photographic discourse. The course includes six fortnightly online workshops via Zoom, one in-person away-day at Open Eye Gallery in Liverpool, and a one-hour one-to-one mentoring session with curator Mark Devereux. The total course cost is £600 (with discounts for studio members).

What is Offered

The course provides 6 fortnightly half-day online workshops, 1 in-person away-day at Open Eye Gallery, and a 1-hour private mentoring session per artist.

Requirements

Applicants must be early-mid career visual artists living and working in England who use photography as a prominent medium in their practice.

How to Apply

Submit a short covering letter including a statement on why you want to participate (200 words), a statement about your work (200 words), a portfolio of recent works (PDF format, up to 5 pages, 10MB max), and personal contact details. Applications should be sent via WeTransfer to mark@markdevereuxprojects.com. Video or audio applications are also accepted to support accessibility.
