CPH:DOX
CPH:DOX supports a broad understanding of documentary storytelling, embracing cinematic nonfiction, experimental film, artists’ moving image, investigative works, XR/VR projects, installations, and interactive formats. The festival is internationally known for pushing the boundaries of documentary practice through programmes that merge film, contemporary art, journalism, activism, music, science, and technology. The festival includes a range of prestigious competition categories such as the DOX:AWARD, NEW:VISION AWARD for experimental and artists’ films, F:ACT AWARD for investigative cinema, and INTER:ACTIVE AWARD for immersive works. Alongside competition strands, the festival presents thematic sidebars focused on subjects including human rights, science, music, activism, history, and contemporary artistic practice. Selected works may also participate in CPH:MARKET, educational programmes, and the festival’s nationwide and online screenings. In addition to film submissions, CPH:DOX also hosts industry and development initiatives such as CPH:FORUM and CPH:LAB. CPH:LAB is a seven-month incubator programme for filmmakers, artists, and creative technologists developing innovative nonfiction projects involving XR, immersive media, AI, videogames, and interactive storytelling.
Inclusion in the CPH:DOX festival program.
The festival accepts films of any duration as well as interactive and immersive projects including VR, AR, mixed media, and installations. Eligible films must have premiered after 1 April 2026. Priority is given to world, international, or European premieres for competition sections, while non-competitive programmes generally require Danish premieres only. Submission fees are approximately 300 DKK (€40) for films over 50 minutes and 150 DKK (€20) for shorter films and interactive works. Fee waivers may be available for artists from DAC-listed countries. Selected films must provide screening materials, English subtitles, stills, trailers, and promotional assets according to the festival’s technical specifications. For CPH:LAB, applicants must submit project proposals for innovative documentary or interactive works. The programme particularly encourages projects combining documentary storytelling with videogames, immersive technologies, AI, or interdisciplinary artistic approaches. Participants commit to workshops, mentorship, and prototype development between September 2026 and March 2027.
