About the Open Call

Apply to the “Children” international call for artists and writers. Children illuminate our world in ways that inspire and energize, embodying a wide range of emotions and possibilities. They symbolize hope and potential, bursting with curiosity and imagination. The essence of childhood is complex; its fragility can evoke concerns about safety, the loss of innocence, and the pressures of adulthood. Explore your perception of CHILDREN in a literal, abstract, whimsical, or uniquely personal way. Accepted works include visual art (paintings, drawings, photography, mixed media, digital, printmaking, installations, ceramics, fabric, jewelry, sculpture, and other 2- and 3-dimensional media) and written art (fiction, poetry, short stories and other written explorations up to 1,800 words). Selected works will be showcased in an online exhibition for at least two years and listed in the artist/writer directory. Additionally, selected works may be published in the ArtAscent Art & Literature Journal and promoted on social media channels.

What is Offered

Selected artists and writers will be showcased for at least two years on the ArtAscent website online exhibition (up to 400 words or 3 images), including bio and website link. Work will be listed in the ArtAscent website artist/writer listing directory. Additionally, selected work may be included in the ArtAscent magazine (digital and print), announced in the ArtAscent newsletter, and promoted on ArtAscent's social media channels (Facebook, Bluesky, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram). Gold Artist/Writer, Silver Artist, and Bronze Artist will also receive a professional review and profile written by an art writer.

Requirements

Submitted work must be original creations. Previously published work is acceptable if not by ArtAscent. All artists 18 years and older can apply. Visual art can be 2- and 3-dimensional media. Written art can be up to 1,800 words. Video or sound art is not supported directly, but good photography documenting interactive or performance art may be submitted. ArtAscent does not represent artists or sell their work; purchase inquiries are referred directly to the artist.
