CCA Islands Travel Scholarship 2026 – 2027

About the Open Call

The CCA Travel Scholarship supports professionals in contemporary art and culture who wish to pursue research in Japan. The program covers research expenses and travel costs. Recipients are expected to stay in Japan for a minimum of 4 weeks and a maximum of 8 weeks between September 1, 2026, and March 31, 2027. A final research report is required upon completion of the stay. Preference is given to applicants under 35 years of age. Curators must have work experience or a degree in art history, while architects and designers must have professional practice experience.

What is Offered

Research expenses of JPY 200,000 and one return transportation fare to/from Japan (or within Japan for residents).

Requirements

Preference for applicants under 35 years of age. Curators: work experience or degree in art/art history. Architects/Designers: experience running a private office or equivalent. All materials must be in English. Submission files must not exceed 1GB total.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted online through the provided Google Form link. Applicants must provide a research proposal, provisional schedule, budget plan, CV, and for artists/designers/architects, a portfolio of 5-10 works in PDF, video, or audio format. All materials must be in English.
