About the Open Call

Welcome to the Cave Yuccas Artist Retreat in Trôo, France. This retreat offers accommodation in a charming and comfortable cottage on the same premises as a dedicated studio space, allowing artists to work without distraction. Discover the gorgeous un-touristed northern Loire Valley countryside in the troglodyte village of Trôo. The private cottage offers stunning views, and the art studio is located in a cave house below, accessible 24/7. It is equipped with French box easels and basic studio supplies. Any visual artist, poet, or writer from anywhere in the world is eligible to apply. This retreat aims to inspire the creation of artworks that respond to the unique characteristics of Trôo, although artists are free to work on any theme. At the end of the stay, artists are kindly asked to contribute one piece of their visual or literary work, inspired by Trôo, to the Cave Yuccas Museum gallery's permanent collection. Due to the property's location, accessible only by a steep footpath, it is not recommended for anyone with mobility issues.

What is Offered

Accommodation for up to two people in a 1 BR/1 BA cottage, 24/7 access to a dedicated art studio with bathroom, all utilities (including electric heat and wifi), and post-stay cleaning fee. Basic studio supplies such as French box easels, white spirit solvent, utility knives, paint scrapers, rags, and aprons are provided.

Requirements

Any visual artist, poet, or writer, based anywhere in the world, is eligible. The retreat is not recommended for individuals with mobility issues due to steep footpaths and staircases. Artists are asked to contribute one piece of their visual or literary work, inspired by Trôo, to the Cave Yuccas Museum's permanent collection.
