About the Open Call

Casa Uno offers artist residencies for 3 weeks in the Central Valley of Costa Rica, welcoming a diverse range of artists including writers, visual artists, photographers, filmmakers, storytellers, poets, composers, librettists, performers, and dancer/choreographers. The property provides a beautiful, inspiring natural setting designed for focused work, not sightseeing. Artists are provided with a private room and bath, with shared kitchen facilities. Each bedroom has a desk and work table, and common areas are available for work and collaboration. While there are no separate studios, ample outdoor and indoor common spaces are suitable for various artistic practices. The residency is a no-smoking property with good internet. Artists are responsible for their own food, cooked in shared kitchens, and transportation to and within Costa Rica. Airport transfers can be arranged for a fee. Residents are encouraged to share ideas and attend a weekly writing group. A welcoming dinner or breakfast is provided upon arrival. On the last Saturday, participants are asked to share their work with local community members. The residency is for individual artists only; spouses, partners, or children are not accommodated unless they apply and are accepted as participating artists.

What is Offered

Private room and bath, shared kitchen facilities, good internet access, access to a pool and a unique labyrinth, welcoming dinner/breakfast, laundry facilities (washer and dryer), linen and towels provided, opportunities for meaningful interactions and stimulating discussions with other artists.
