About the Open Call

The Canvas NYC Photography Award 2026 challenges students and emerging photographers to capture New York City in its truest form under the theme 'UNFILTERED.' This theme emphasizes presence over perfection, seeking stories embedded in the city's laughter, chaos, quiet, and connections. The award aims to define the indefinable essence of NYC through authentic photographic narratives. Participants are invited to submit 5-10 original photographs that reflect this vision.

What is Offered

The First Place winner receives a $5,000 cash prize, is named Hotel Canvas Featured Artist 2026, and is granted a solo exhibition at Hotel Canvas Fifth Avenue Gallery, retaining 100% of artwork sale revenue. Second Place receives a $1,000 cash prize, and Third Place receives a $500 cash prize. All participants may have a guest room in Hotel Canvas Fifth Avenue named after them and use it as a personal canvas to display work, keeping 100% of sales revenue.

Requirements

Open to students and emerging photographers living or studying in New York City. Individual and team submissions are welcome.

How to Apply

To enter, submit a series of 5-10 original photographs, a short self-introduction, a title for each photo, and a short story paragraph about the work. Applications are made via the 'APPLY NOW' link on the website (site.picter.com/canvas-nyc-award-2026).
