The Art Institute of Chicago
Inspired by the exhibition 'Elizabeth Catlett: A Black Revolutionary Artist and All That It Implies,' this call for submissions titled 'Art as Resistance' asks young artists how art can be used as a tool of activism in the face of oppression. Teens are encouraged to create works that advocate for change, stand strong in values, and highlight silenced voices. Accepted mediums include photography, graphic design, digital poster design, collage, and mixed media. A selection of entries will be printed for a physical exhibition at the museum, while others will be featured in a virtual gallery.
Selected artworks will be printed and displayed in the McCormick Gallery and published in a virtual gallery. Artists will be celebrated with a reception on April 4, 2026, and three artists will receive additional prizes.
Open to teens in grades 9–12, ages 13–19, living in Chicago or surrounding suburbs. Submissions must be original, non-AI-generated, and meet specific digital resolution requirements (min 2400 x 3000 pixels). Limit one entry (up to 3 artworks) per person.
Submit work via the official Google Form provided on the Art Institute of Chicago website. Artwork must be submitted digitally as a JPEG or PDF file and should be at least 8 x 10 inches (2400 x 3000 pixels).
