Oxford University Museum of Natural History
One artist will be commissioned to create a new artwork Total budget: up to £7,000, including: Artist fee Materials and production Travel, shipping, and installation The artwork will be displayed for the full exhibition period The Museum receives over 800,000 visitors a year and entry is free There is a chance the exhibition may tour internationally Three additional finalists will be featured on the Museum’s website and social media Themes : Your work should respond to one or more of these topics: Critical raw materials Mining and geology Labour and human rights Environmental impact of extraction Green energy and sustainability Human use of technology Artists are welcome to speak with researchers from Oxford University’s Oxford EARTH programme while developing their ideas. Location & Space: The Museum is a historic Neo-Gothic building, not a typical gallery space. There is limited wall space, so artists should think creatively about how their work could exist in the building or even outdoors. Possible locations include: The temporary exhibition gallery The central court Other areas of the Museum The Museum lawn (subject to permission) All artistic mediums are welcome, including digital work.
