COAL
The COAL Prize 2026 is dedicated to the theme of night, addressing the disappearance of darkness due to artificial light and its ecological impacts. It seeks artistic projects that celebrate the nocturnal environment as a vital milieu for regeneration, resistance, and imagination, while contributing to an ecology of rhythms.
COAL Prize: 12,000 EUR grant and a creative residency at Domaine de Belval; Special Jury Prize: 3,000 EUR grant; Ateliers Médicis mention: residency in Clichy-sous-Bois/Montfermeil; Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles/Paris mention: 2,000 EUR grant and an exhibition.
Open to artists of all disciplines. Selection criteria include artistic value, relevance to the theme, originality, pedagogy, social approach, eco-design, and project feasibility.
Compile an application file into a single PDF (max 30 MB) named SURNAME_First name_2026_Project title containing the application form, project description, at least two HD visuals, a CV, and an artistic portfolio. Submit via the COAL server at upload.projetcoal.org.
