Wharton Esherick Museum
The year 2026 marks the 100th anniversary of Wharton Esherick’s Studio. To mark the centennial, the museum's 32nd annual exhibition, 'Breaking Ground,' explores the term's multiple meanings—from physical construction to significant, original ideas. The competition is open to emerging and established makers across all disciplines, provided wood is a meaningful part of the work. Selected pieces will be exhibited physically in the Museum’s visitor center gallery and featured in an online exhibition and publication. Jurors include Tom Loeser, Joyce Lin, and Emily Zilber.
Physical and online exhibition, inclusion in a publication, and eligibility for cash prizes: 1st place ($500), 2nd place ($300), 3rd place ($200), and Viewer’s Choice ($200). The Museum covers return shipping for unsold items.
Artists must incorporate wood as a meaningful part of the work. Works must be available for the duration of the exhibition (June 18 – September 20, 2026). Artists are responsible for shipping costs to the museum.
Submit a completed online entry form via Jotform, including an artist resume/CV/bio, artist statement, and up to three images per piece (minimum 4x6 inches at 300 dpi). A $30 entry fee ($20 for Museum members) is required for up to three pieces.
