About the Open Call

CALL FOR ENTRY: BOTANICALS—FLORA OF THE WORLD. Online Photography Exhibition. Theme: BOTANICALS—FLORA OF THE WORLD. Decagon Gallery invites photographers to submit images for Botanicals—Flora of The World, an online exhibition celebrating the rich and varied beauty of plant life. From wild landscapes to cultivated gardens, from macro studies to abstract interpretations, we welcome all photographic approaches that explore the visual poetry of the botanical world. All interpretations are welcome: documentary or conceptual, urban or rural, personal or political, literal or abstract. Surprise us. JUROR: Lee Anne White. Lee Anne White is a fine art photographer with a deep love for landscapes. She teaches photography and creativity workshops around the country, including at Maine Media, the Chicago Botanic Garden, and on Amelia Island. A former editor-in-chief of Fine Gardening, she’s also written and photographed many books and articles on garden design and landscape architecture. Her work has been featured in magazines like Sunset and Better Homes and Gardens. Lee Anne holds degrees in creative studies and journalism. "Quiet places call to me. I find them in the desert, by the sea, atop mountains, on foggy mornings, in gardens and at historic sites where voices from the past whisper their stories. I am drawn to contrasts: the natural and designed, light and shadow, open and closed, inside and out, smooth and textured, sharp and blurred. I have an affinity for bold-foliage plants, found objects, traditional utilitarian crafts and vintage tools. I want to know the history of the land—how it has been shaped by humans and how it has shaped us in return. And I am infinitely curious about the creative process, creative people and their creative practices." -Lee Anne White

What is Offered

First Place: $500 cash prize and an online Solo exhibition. Second Place: $300 cash prize. Third Place: $200 cash prize. Juror’s Awards and Honorable Mentions. All selected photographers will receive a digital award badge. Selected work will be published in a printed exhibition catalog available for purchase. A short video presentation will be created and shared on YouTube and the gallery website and social media.

Requirements

All submissions must be original works of photography. Open to all photographers over 18, worldwide. Format your files to be at least 2100 pixels on the long side, and under 3 mb. Name the files: “FirstName-LastName_title.jpg”. Your files must be set to at least 2100 pixels on the long edge, saved as jpg or jpeg, and be less than 3 mb (that's the size of the closed file).
