Blue Mountain Center
Blue Mountain Center (BMC) is a working community for established creative and non-fiction writers, artists, composers, filmmakers, and activists. The residency sessions for 2026 are scheduled for June 19–July 17, July 24–August 21, and September 4–October 2. The Center provides a communal living environment that values racial, economic, and environmental justice. Notably, the center maintains a policy prohibiting cell phones in common spaces and does not provide Wi-Fi to encourage deep work and rejuvenation. Residents are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
The residency includes room and board at no cost. Additionally, BMC offers financial support ranging from $400 to $600 for residents facing financial or structural barriers.
Requirements vary by discipline: Writers submit 10 pages; Playwrights submit up to 30 pages; Artists submit five JPEGs and an artist statement; Film/Video applicants submit a 10-minute work sample link; Composers and Audio storytellers submit up to three audio samples. All residents must be vaccinated against COVID-19.
Applicants must submit a brief bio, a plan of work, a statement on community living, and specific work samples (depending on the discipline) through the Center's online Submittable portal. A $25 application fee is required.
