Essex Cultural Diversity Project and the National Trust
Essex Cultural Diversity Project and the National Trust invite proposals from creative practitioners for a new commission as part of Constable 250. The project seeks to celebrate John Constable’s life and work through his inspirations and experiences, encouraging people to find belonging in Flatford and in their own landscapes. The residency-style approach requires artists to spend time in Flatford with local people, visitors, and community groups, acting as a bridge between the community and the National Trust. The commission is open to practitioners across all media and career levels, particularly those who explore or promote diversity.
A total budget of £15,000 to cover all artistic fees and project delivery costs.
The call is open to individual practitioners, collectives, or companies working across any media (visual, digital, writing, performance, music, etc.). Applicants must propose a socially engaged, participant-led project that connects communities to the Flatford landscape and its history. Interviews will be held on Monday 9 March 2026.
Email your proposal to jo@essexcdp.com by midnight on Monday 23 February 2026. Proposals can be written (max 600 words for concept, 200 for diversity statement), verbal, or video (max 10 minutes). Include an outline of the artistic concept, project title, community engagement process, diversity statement, portfolio/CV/links, a basic budget outline for the £15,000, a timeline, and a completed Commission Monitoring Form 2025-26.
