About the Open Call

Awaji Art Circus (AAC) is recruiting approximately 10 artists for its 2026 and 2027 editions. Selected performers will participate in an original theatrical show (12 performances), school shows (up to 13 performances), and various local sub-events. The residency includes a period of orientation, rehearsal, and cultural activities. Artists are required to participate in social media promotion and communicate in English. The 2026 term runs from September 12 to November 10.

What is Offered

500,000 JPY performance fee (paid in cash JPY), round-trip economy airfare to Kansai International Airport, 3 meals per day, accommodation (single or shared), support staff, insurance, and cultural sightseeing tours.

Requirements

Open to artists 18+ in circus and physical disciplines (excluding fire acts). Must be able to communicate in English. Aerial artists must have a ground act version for venues without rigging. Groups are limited to 3 members. Artists must be willing to share their experiences on social media and engage with local residents.

How to Apply

Artists must first pay a 35 USD application fee via the Stripe link provided on the official website. After payment, a link to the Application Form will be displayed. This form must be completed within 48 hours and requires details on performance genres, technical requirements, social media links, and online video links (YouTube, Vimeo, or Google Drive).
