About the Open Call

Auditionees are invited to try out for 'Divided,' a musical with music by Kristen Lee Rosenfeld and book and lyrics by Luanne Aronen Rosenfeld. The story follows Eleanor, the daughter of a wealthy Jewish merchant, and Hanna, a young enslaved woman, as they refuse to accept societal norms in a country divided by race, religion, and politics. Set pre- and post-Civil War, the narrative spans from Mississippi to Boston, detailing their journey to reunite and seek personal freedom after being separated by war, hatred, and lies. Auditions can be submitted via self-tape or attended in-person. Self-tapes should be no longer than 3 minutes, include 16-32 bars of a standard musical song and a monologue, and must be sent to scorum@govst.edu by January 30, 2026, 11:59 PM. In-person auditionees should prepare 32 bars of a musical theatre or pop song. Callbacks will involve cold reads from the show and learning 23 bars of music from 'Divided'. The program is partially supported by grants from the Illinois Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Requirements

Auditionees for self-tapes must submit a 16-32 bar standard musical song and a monologue (totaling no more than 3 minutes). Auditionees for in-person auditions must prepare 32 bars of a song in the style of musical theatre or pop. All auditionees are expected to attend callbacks, which will include cold reads and learning music from the show.

Auditionees must either submit a self-tape or attend in-person auditions. For self-tapes, prepare 16-32 bars of a standard musical song and a monologue (no longer than 3 minutes total), then email to scorum@govst.edu by January 30, 2026, 11:59 PM, and complete the DIVIDED audition form. For in-person auditions, prepare 32 bars of a musical theatre or pop song. Auditionees submitting self-tapes will be expected to attend callbacks.
