HIAP, WASP, and SCIAENA
Arts on the Edge Spaces (ARES) investigates peripheral sites as centers of knowledge and resilience. Selected artists will participate in residencies at one of three locations: WASP (Romania), SCIAENA (Portugal), or HIAP (Finland). The program emphasizes slow travel, community engagement, and cross-disciplinary work. Artists will develop work for a touring exhibition and public program to take place across partner locations in 2027.
Working grant of €1500 per month, material budget of €2000, travel costs, accommodation, and exhibition budgets (up to €1000 for build and €500 for workshops).
Applicants must reside in Romania, Moldova, Portugal, Spain, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, or Greenland. Artists must apply for a residency in a territory other than where they currently reside. Must be a contemporary visual arts practitioner and able to commit to the full residency period and subsequent touring exhibition.
Applications must be submitted through the online application form at https://www.hiap.fi/ares-application-form/. Required materials include a professional bio, motivation statement, work plan for community engagement, and a link to a portfolio.
