About the Open Call

Hektor, located on the inspiring island of Lanzarote, offers a unique residency program for artists and activists. The program aims to create a better and more creative world by providing a safe space for changemakers. Residents will stay in private suites (30-40 sqm with kitchenette, private bathroom, double bed) and have access to shared work areas (16 sqm with additional kitchen), a shared garden with pool, relaxing spots, and 12,000 sqm of farmlands. Specialized materials like frames, easels, some paints, and tools are provided, while others like baking ovens or recording equipment are not. Hektor offers exhibition and performance possibilities, requiring a contribution to the collection in such cases. A physical and online library is available. Residents receive a weekly meal and can opt for breakfast. Transport is not included. The program emphasizes engaging with others and fostering connections with local individuals and organizations. Openness and interaction are key values. While no work donations are expected, artists must acknowledge Hektor for work produced during or as a result of the residency (website links, social media tags). Pictures of the property must mention Hektor. Artists must provide qualitative material for their dedicated webpage. An invitation to work on the farm one day per week is extended but not mandatory. Artists under 30 focusing on photography, painting, or graphic art can receive a discount if contributing to the collection. Showcasing and selling work is possible with Hektor's support, requiring a collection contribution. Residents must respect safety measurements, minimize screen time, and adhere to a plant-based diet (vegetarian). Toxic behavior, racism, and bigotry are grounds for removal. Smoking is restricted, and alcohol/drug use advised to be limited. Extra guests require approval. The selection process starts with online registration, followed by a 15-working-day evaluation. Applications focusing on changemaking aligned with Hektor's values are prioritized and receive a discount. Accepted applicants will have a video call to discuss expectations. A letter of agreement follows, and a deposit secures the residency (100 EUR if more than 6 months away, or 50% up to 500 EUR). A 25 EUR invoice is sent for administrative costs if an accepted applicant withdraws after agreement. After the residency, artists receive an updated webpage featuring their work, and Hektor retains permission to share the work on its online media, always crediting the artist. A portrait of each artist will be taken by Yves during their stay for Hektor's media, also usable by the artist on their online media.
