About the Open Call

Since 2005, the Artist-in-Residence International Program (´acePIRAR) has been a professional platform for the production of contemporary art, acting as a link between the different artistic practices and the cultures that produce it. Our residences provide an exchange territory that acts as a common ground for new ideas, offering connections with other national and international artists, curators and cultural organizations, as well as the urban and social plot of Buenos Aires, one of the cultural capitals of Latin America. On its 20th anniversary, ´acePIRAR has become a relevant point of reference within Latin America for professional artists from all origins and disciplines who come to work with us from different regions of the world. We understand collaborative work as a hallmark of our programs. It is evident in how we interact professionally with other agents, creating a network of affective exchange with the residents of our programs. This community building and its high professional level make this program a unique experience. Being in residence at ´ace means working collaboratively, receiving technical and conceptual assistance from a professional team and being immersed in the vibrant cultural life of the city of Buenos Aires. During their working period, residents will benefit from intense production and / or research time, enriched by the exchange of ideas and experiences with their colleagues. The residences offer a trained professional team and a unique infrastructure, providing individual support to each resident and enabling the development of their artistic production. In turn, the residency is extended after its completion, as we accompany the results obtained by including it in various networks of world-class local and international workspaces and platforms, facilitating its anchorage with other artistic and social sectors. The name of the program, ´acePIRAR, is a play on Spanish words. It combines ´ace (from “hace,” meaning “to do” in Spanish) with the initials of the program (Programa Internacional de Residencias ARtísticas). Additionally, it incorporates _pirar_, a term from Argentine _lunfardo_ (slang) that means both “to leave or move suddenly” and “to go a little crazy.” This concept reflects the essence of our residencies, which encourage artists to step beyond their usual creative fields, seeking new inspiration. At the same time, they provide a space for an intense, free-flowing exchange of ideas among fellow artists, curators, and specialists. The residency program offers different types: Production Residencies, Exploration Residencies, [Palimpsest Project] Mural Painting Residency, and Micro Residencies.
