Art at the Alison Richard Building
Exhibition proposals are invited from artists and curators for 2026. The committee seeks innovative curatorial ideas for exhibition projects that will foster discussion and engage members of the University and the public. Exhibitions should generally showcase two or more artists and extend for a minimum of 8 weeks, including installation. The Alison Richard Building is a large space over four floors, suitable for work ready to be hung using an existing rail system, placed on plinths, in display cabinets, or attached with Command Strips for light works. Two Mac screens are available for video works. The space is not able to accommodate heavy objects/screens requiring wall fixtures, installation work, or free-standing/hanging sculptures. Artworks deemed too explicit or offensive will not be selected, as the building is a place of study and work, not a dedicated gallery.
No charge for the exhibition space, no commission on sales (all proceeds go to artists), publicity via event listings, mailing lists, social media and flyers. The art committee will cover the cost of the Private View and can offer a free venue, some publicity, and support for other events.
Proposals must be from artists or curators. Exhibitions should showcase two or more artists, or for solo exhibitions, enough works to fill the ground and first floors. Work must be suitable for the existing hanging rail system, plinths, display cabinets, or Command Strips for light works. No heavy objects/screens requiring wall fixtures, installation work, or free-standing/hanging sculptures are permitted. Artworks must not be deemed too explicit or offensive. Exhibitors are responsible for material expenses, travel, transport, installation costs, and insurance of works during transit and for the duration of exhibitions, as well as liability insurance. Artists are expected to assist with the installation of their exhibition.
