About the Open Call

Monson Arts’ residency program offers 2-week and 4-week programs for a cohort of 5 artists and 5 writers. Residents are invited to immerse themselves in small town life at the edge of Maine’s North Woods to focus on their creative practice in an inspiring environment. The program includes the Abbott Watts Residency for Photography, offering access to a photography studio and darkroom. Residents’ studios are located in newly renovated Main Street buildings, designed to be flexible for various creative practices. Visual arts studios are spacious, light-filled, with large work tables and sinks, and access to woodshop and metal shop facilities. Writing studios are comfortably furnished. Residents live in newly renovated historic homes throughout town, within walking distance to studios, offering shared kitchens, bathrooms, common areas, laundry machines, telephone, and high-speed fiberoptic Wifi.

What is Offered

Private studio, private bedroom in shared housing, all meals, and a $500 stipend ($250 for 2-week programs). Access to photography studio, darkroom, woodshop, and metal shop facilities.

Requirements

Applicants must submit up to 5 images / 5 minutes of media OR 5 pages of writing examples, a letter of intent for their time at the residency, a C.V. or Resume (limited to 6000 characters), and two reference names.
