About the Open Call

This exhibition explores the intersection of fashion, circus, and stagecraft, capturing the drama, elegance, and eccentricity of the performing arts. Art of the Spectacle creates a visual celebration of performance, where costume, movement, and theatrics take center stage. Artists are invited to submit works that embrace the bold, the theatrical, and the extraordinary. Whether inspired by vintage vaudeville, avant-garde fashion, or the magic of the circus, this show seeks artwork that transforms the gallery into a stage. Submissions are welcome in all media including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, mixed media, digital arts, sculpture and video. AI generated art is not allowed.

What is Offered

Awards include 1st place ($500), 2nd place ($300), 3rd place ($200), plus Merit and Honorable Mention awards. Accepted artists receive an exhibition opportunity and 60% sales commission for members (50% for non-members).

Requirements

Original work completed within the last three years and not previously shown at Art Center Sarasota. No AI generated art. All work must be for sale. Maximum size for 2D artwork is 65" x 65" after framing; maximum size for 3D artwork is 60" x 36" x 36". Artists are responsible for shipping costs and providing return labels.

Submit online via Submittable at the provided URL. Artists must submit high-quality images (1MB to 5MB) or video files (MP4, MOV, AVI, MPG) and specify if the work is framed or unframed.
