About the Open Call

The vision of InContact and Art of Improvisation Residency is to build and expand the Contact Improvisation practice in India. We are dedicated to rooting the CI practice in the fundamentals established by the first generation instigators of CI, while simultaneously staying curious to further experiment, rethink, explore, and question the form. The program provides extended intensives with diverse teachers, sharing unique approaches to CI and movement improvisation, drawing from contemporary dance, somatic practices, and more. It offers a solid structure of focused practice and open space for integration, accompanied by laboratories and regular evening jams. The program emphasizes diverse demographics, abilities, and experiences, fostering conversation and exchange between Western and Eastern, foreign and Indian influences. Part 1 (24th - 31st Oct) introduces fundamental principles of CI, essential for newcomers. Part 2 (7th - 17th Nov) focuses on CI techniques and group scores, deepening the practice. Part 3 (21st Nov - 4th Dec) explores a somatic approach to CI. Part 4 (8th - 18th Dec) expands into an interdisciplinary approach, integrating CI with text, sound, and visual arts for collective movement improvisation and performance research. The residency also includes 'In Resonance Jams' from 22nd Dec to 2nd Jan for extended study.

What is Offered
