About the Open Call

This summertime plein air event invites more than 150 regional artists to spend a day creating original works across the Arboretum’s 66 acres of gardens. The event takes place during the exhibition 'Hunt Slonem at the Arboretum: Bunnies, Birds & Butterflies'. Guests can observe artists as they work in real time. Selected works from the event will be curated into a public gallery exhibition in August and September, with a juried prize awarded for Best in Show.

What is Offered

Inclusion in a public gallery exhibition, juried prize for Best in Show, social media spotlights, and reception invitations.

Requirements

Artists must create work on-site from July 17-19, responding to the Arboretum landscape. Eligible media includes painting, drawing, mixed media, collage, or portable printmaking. Does not accept applications from emerging artists.

How to Apply

Apply online via the ZAPPlication platform. Artists must submit a completed artwork for jury review after the Plein Air Day event.
