About the Open Call

apexart's Open Calls are opportunities to turn curatorial ideas into exhibitions. Proposals are judged through a crowdsourced, anonymous voting process by an international jury. Winning projects become part of apexart's exhibition season. The NYC Open Call (October) focuses on exhibitions at apexart's Manhattan space, while the International Open Call (February) is for exhibitions anywhere in the world outside of NYC. Projects are judged on the strength of the concept and the organizer's ability to communicate it.

What is Offered

A total budget of $10,000 per exhibition, which includes a $2,000 honorarium for the curator/organizer and $8,000 for production costs (shipping, travel, artist honorariums). apexart also covers insurance, advertising, brochure design/printing, and the opening reception.

Requirements

Proposals must be for group exhibitions and no longer than 500 words. For International Open Calls, submitters must have visited the proposed geographic location. Submissions must be idea-driven rather than focused on specific artists' careers.
