About the Open Call
The Aesthetica Short Film Festival (ASFF) is one of the UK’s largest film festivals, recognized as a festival of national significance. It celebrates powerful storytelling and compelling narratives, programming films by genre into curated reels. Selected filmmakers have gone on to win BAFTAs and Oscars. The festival includes a live event in York and a digital festival online.
What is Offered
Inclusion in the Official Selection, eligibility for BAFTA and BIFA nominations, Best in Category awards, and a combined total of £5000 in cash prizes.
Requirements
Short films must be 30 minutes or under. VR/360 projects must be under 30 minutes and compatible with MetaQuest 2, 3, or HTC Vive. All non-English films must have burnt-in subtitles. Only stereo audio is accepted. No premiere requirement.
How to Apply
Submissions must be made through the FilmFreeway platform. Applicants must provide a video link that does not expire and include all required contact information. The regular deadline is May 31, 2026, with a late deadline of June 7, 2026.
