About the Open Call

The Town of Carbondale, CO Public Art Commission is seeking 15 outdoor street sculptures for the annual rotating 'Art Around Town' show. Each artist is allowed the opportunity to display up to four original sculptures. Selected pieces will be on display for one year. Sculptures will be placed on Colorado Yule Marble bases and tack-welded to steel plates. Applicants must consider durability and weather-proofing as Carbondale experiences intense cold, snow, and heat. The Town of Carbondale is located 30 miles from Aspen and is part of a Creative Arts District.

What is Offered

$1,000 honorarium per sculpture (up to 4 sculptures), a $500 travel allowance, marketing and sales assistance, and insurance coverage for the retail value (with a $5,000 deductible).

Requirements

Sculptures must arrive with a steel plate attached to the bottom for installation. Artists must be present for both installation (May/June 2026) and deinstallation (May 2027). Works must be fabricated of durable, low-maintenance materials without sharp protruding objects. Illumination is not permitted due to local lighting codes.

How to Apply

All application materials must be submitted online via the CAFÉ website (www.callforentry.org). Artists can electronically submit up to ten high-resolution digital images showing all angles and the base of the sculpture, along with a brief artist statement.
