About the Open Call

Founded in 1947, The Boston Printmakers' mission is to promote public knowledge of printmaking, encourage and support artists working in printmaking, and promote excellence and innovation within the field. This biennial is juried by Esther Adler, Curator in the Department of Drawings and Prints at The Museum of Modern Art. The exhibition will be held from September 8 – November 21, 2026, at the 808 Gallery, Boston University, located at 808 Commonwealth Ave., Boston, Massachusetts. The exhibition features original, innovative works in all printmaking media by North American artists. Works not covered by a suitable frame are welcomed, though not covered by Boston University’s insurance. A catalog of the exhibit will be created.

What is Offered

$10,000 in juror-designated purchase prizes and materials awards will be given. Purchase prizes are acquired for permanent collections at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the Art Complex Museum, Duxbury, MA; Boston Athenaeum; and the Boston Printmakers Collection at the Boston Public Library. The exhibition also generates significant art sales through patron and public purchases, with a 35% commission charged on all sales for exhibition expenses.

Requirements

Eligibility is open to North American artists 18 years and older. Original, innovative works in all printmaking media are eligible. Photographs, offset reproductions, or reproductions of artwork originally produced in another medium are not considered. Submitted work must not have been exhibited in any other Boston Printmakers exhibition. Artists may submit up to three digital images of original prints completed between 2023-2026. All delivered work must match the juried image. Framing specifications include simple black metal or black wooden frames (max ½” thick on front edge), Plexiglas, and a standard white or off-white window mat (minimum 3 inches wide). Prints must be securely mounted, and frames must be ready to hang with wire or D-rings. Alternative presentations are allowed if fully described in the entry. Shipped work must be sent in sturdy, re-usable packaging, pre-paid via UPS, and include a UPS pre-paid return-shipping label with insurance. Artists outside the U.S. without a UPS return label will be billed for return shipping. Artwork in the gallery will be insured for 35% less than the selling price; artists must insure work in transit.
