Lenscratch
The prize recognises outstanding contemporary photographic practices and offers young artists opportunities for visibility within the international photography community. Winners receive cash awards, publication features on Lenscratch, portfolio review opportunities, mentorship, exhibition opportunities, and photography-related prizes from partner organisations. The competition places strong emphasis on originality, conceptual strength, technical quality, and the development of a distinctive artistic voice. Previous editions have featured artists working across documentary photography, experimental image-making, mixed media, installation, and interdisciplinary photographic practices. The Lenscratch Student Prize is widely regarded as an important platform for emerging photographers, helping selected artists gain exposure to curators, publishers, galleries, and photography institutions internationally. The programme also highlights a broader group of shortlisted artists through features such as the “Top 25 to Watch.”
The competition is open to students currently enrolled in bachelor’s or master’s degree programmes in photography. International applicants are eligible to apply. Submissions are typically free and require artists to submit a portfolio of photographic work alongside project information and artist details through the official submission platform. Applicants are expected to demonstrate strong artistic direction, originality, and a cohesive body of work.
