About the Open Call

The annual BigPicture: Natural World Photography Competition encourages photographers from around the world to contribute their work to this photo competition that will both celebrate and illustrate the rich diversity of life on Earth and inspire action to protect and conserve it through the power of imagery. The winning images are exhibited at one of the most prestigious science institutions in the world in San Francisco, California, USA.

Winning images are exhibited at the California Academy of Sciences and receive media exposure through partners like bioGraphic.

Requirements

Open to photographers globally. Submission limit of up to 10 images as a single project. Requirements include specific technical image specifications and file naming conventions. No watermarks or signatures allowed.

How to Apply

Submissions are accepted online via the Picter platform. Photographers must follow specific image specifications: .jpg or .jpeg format in sRGB, minimum 1920 px and maximum 3000 px on the long edge. Images must not contain borders, watermarks, or signatures. Filenames must follow a specific category_title.jpg naming convention.
