Anderson Center at Tower View
The Anderson Center's Artist Residency Program provides a unique opportunity for artists, writers, musicians, and performers to immerse themselves in their practice within a supportive cohort model. Residents receive a private room in the historic Tower View residence, equipped with a desk and storage, with private or shared bathrooms. Linens and towels are provided, and the house is cleaned weekly. Chef-prepared dinners are served on weeknights, and all groceries are provided, with dietary restrictions accommodated. Workspaces include 15' x 26' visual artist studios, a darkroom, a printmaking studio (with a Charles Brand-like etching press), an open-air forge, practice space for dancers/choreographers, and two grand pianos for composers/musicians. Writers have in-room desks, Wi-Fi, access to three libraries, large sitting rooms, and other working spaces. The Center is located on a 350-acre historic campus on the western edge of Red Wing, Minnesota, approximately 45 minutes southeast of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Residents are expected to make a substantive contribution to the local community through presentations, workshops, or classes, engaging with schools, senior centers, and other organizations. The program fosters connections within artist cohorts and with the broader Red Wing community, believing in the generative power of interdisciplinary exchange and diverse perspectives. While the general residency covers accommodation and food, additional funding (stipends/travel honorariums) is typically not available, unlike some specialized programs.
Two to four weeks of live/work space, chef-prepared meals, groceries, private room with bed and desk, private/shared bathrooms, linens, towels, various dedicated workspaces (visual artist studios, darkroom, printmaking studio, open-air forge, dance practice space, grand pianos), Wi-Fi, and access to libraries.
Artists of exceptional promise and demonstrated accomplishment working across all disciplines. Residents must arrange for their own transportation to the center or designated local transport hubs. Residents are asked to make a substantive contribution to the community.
