About the Open Call

The AQC Challenge is a judged quilt competition that invites artists to create a 90cm square quilt based on the 2026 theme 'Connections'. Entries are evaluated on theme interpretation, design excellence, and craftsmanship. Approximately 30 finalists will be selected to have their actual quilts juried and exhibited at the Australasian Quilt Convention in Melbourne and other Craft & Quilt Fairs throughout Australia for nine months.

What is Offered

$3,500 cash for First Prize, $1,500 cash for Runner-up, and $500 cash for Viewers' Choice, plus inclusion in a touring exhibition.

Requirements

Quilts must be exactly 90cm square (2cm variance allowed), original work completed between July 2025 and the deadline, and consist of three layers of fabric held together with stitching. Finalists must attach Velcro hook tape to the corners for hanging.

How to Apply

Applicants must enter online via the provided registration link, submitting an artist statement of 100 words or less and two high-resolution images (one full view and one detail shot) of their quilt.
