About the Open Call

The Michael P. Smith Fund for Documentary Photography (MPS Fund) was created to honor the life and work of Michael P. Smith. The fund awards cash prizes and exhibition opportunities to Gulf Coast photographers whose work combines artistic excellence and a sustained commitment to a cultural documentary project. Both emerging and established photographers residing in the Gulf Coast states (Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and Georgia) are eligible to apply.

Cash prizes, exhibition opportunities, and inclusion in the New Orleans Photo Alliance permanent collection.

Requirements

Applicants must be emerging or established photographers residing in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, or Georgia. Finalists must provide proof of residency for one year prior to application. Submissions must consist of 10-20 digital images in JPG format.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted through the CaFÉ online system. Applicants must provide a portfolio of 10 to 20 images, a concise work description (260 characters max), a written project statement (530 words max), and a biography or CV (530 words max).
