About the Open Call

The Bucheon City of Literature office announces its 2025 Residency Program for writers, poets, translators, and graphic novelists with published work. The program aims to foster international exchange, enhance mobility for literary and graphic artists, and provide a unique environment for new work development and community connection. Residents are expected to dedicate 80% of their time to personal creative projects and 20% to programs, events, or exchanges in consultation with the office. The residency duration is approximately 4 weeks in November 2025.

What is Offered

Round-trip airfare and transportation from/to the airport, accommodation for approximately one month at the Bucheon Residence, opportunity to engage with the local cultural scene and connect with the Bucheon literary community, and a dedicated coordinator for meetings, events, and cultural activities. Official documents will be provided to support visa applications.

Requirements

Applicants must be affiliated with a UNESCO City of Literature outside of South Korea, have at least one published work (literature, translation, comics, graphics), be proficient in English or Korean for communication, show interest in Korean culture and literature, be willing to participate in local literary events, meetings, interviews, and festivals, attend at least one local literary or exchange event in Korea during the residency, and produce a creative work featuring Bucheon (short text, serialized writing, or illustrated work) inspired by life in Bucheon or Korean culture. The completed work's copyright will remain with Bucheon City for promotional purposes.

Required documents include a completed application form, an excerpt from a published work (max. 2 pages, original language or English), a short biography or curriculum vitae, and an optional letter of recommendation.
